HOSHINGABAD SCIENCE TEACHING PROJECT

 

INTRODUCTION

Hoshangabad Science Teaching Project was started by Kishore Bharti in the year 1972. At present, it is running in 600 schools of about 14 districts of Madhya Pradesh, about 100000 students study the syllabus of this project every year through about 1500 teachers.This project emphasizes on the improvement of science education for classes 6 to 8. Unlike methods that emphasize rote learning, this project places learning through discovery, learning through action and learning through environment. It emphasizes on such process of teaching science. Provides knowledge which can develop scientific temper among the students and make the students confident and learners and creators of knowledge.


Project Objectives

1)-Amendment in teaching of school science:--

The objective of this project is to enable science teaching to meet the universally accepted national educational objectives, by emphasizing the linking of science curriculum to the science and technology experiences of everyday life.
2)-Give priority to innovations:--

Not only using innovation in a few schools, this project also emphasizes on the use of innovation in government 
schools in rural areas.
3)- -Empowering teachers :--

This project emphasizes on academic, administrative and intellectual empowerment of teachers as it is essential for 
improving classroom level.
4)-Emphasis on administrative decentralization:--

 The project emphasizes on decentralization of implementation at the area level using block level secondary schools.

5)-Taking participation of institutions of higher education:--
This project believes that the contribution of higher education, scientists, researchers is also necessary in the efforts to improve the school education system.
6) Emphasis on the role of non-government group:--

 This project is a perfect example of the executive arrangement of the state education department and non-government group.

 Main features of the project

1) Children's Scientific Books :-

 *These books are 1-1 for each class 6 7 8.

* This book is based on discovery principles.
*The design of these books has been made attractive.

*These books have been created by taking the page nutritional feedback of students and teachers through field tests.

*These books are being published by MP Corporation since 1978.

2) Teacher Training :-

 Every teacher has to do 3 training, each training is of 3 weeks for a class In this training :---

* Teachers have to do all the experiments and activities of child scientific books.
*Discussion is done for educational understanding.

*Training related to assessment methods is given.

3)-Resource Group:--

The quality, motivation and accountability of the resource group is an important factor in the achievement of the project, its function is :-

*Development and improvement of children's scientific books

*Teachers training work,

 *Organization of monthly meeting,
*Preparing test papers,

 *Development of assessment guidelines

 *Organization of workshops in various states etc.

 4)-KIT:--

 In this project, a kit has been made for students to experiment in groups of four. For a class of 40 students, a kit is about 4000. Apart from this kit, students also collect materials from the environment or surroundings in various experiments. .
5)-Monthly Meeting:--

 Various monthly meetings are organized to help teachers in school situations and to encourage group interaction, in these meetings people share their experiences, discuss problems and resource teachers give speeches on certain topics.

6)- Examination and Evaluation:--
Evaluation system is kept according to the objectives of the program such as:-

 *Written and practical test

* Written Exam Form Open Book.
*The aim of the test is to test reasoning skills.

  1. For a class 40 students, a kit is about 4000. This sentence is not clear
